The Walking Dead Season 3 Premiere

Hallelujah zombie fans, The Walking Dead finally made its third season debut and we rejoin the survivors under the new Ricktatorship. I have been dying for this all summer and was planted in front of my TV almost the whole weekend as AMC ran a marathon of all the previous eps. I love my walkers. ;)

All Ahead Spoilers!

Things have gotten pretty lean for the gang since we were last with them. They are on the run, scrounging for every last bit of food and ammo. The once timid Carol has learned to shoot and Carl, that little brat, has become a pint-sized zombie killer. All of the group has stepped up their game, except Laurie. That bitch is useless as ever only now she's a huge liability because she's in her third trimester. No offense to Sarah Wayne Callies, but honestly, Laurie is just a shit and I've been waiting for her to get served up buffet-style to the walkers.

We also got to meet the badass, katana wielding Michonne played by newcomer Danai Gurira. We see her slice and dice some walkers as she takes care of an ailing Andrea. I wish we could have seen more of her, but no, they had to spend extra time with Laurie. Grr... We see Herschel finally coming around, stepping up and being a real help to the group, no longer just the crazy landlord with the walkers in the barn.

Rick has led the group to a prison, where he hopes that they will be safe. They've cleared out the walkers in their way  for the most part and in one of the scariest tunnel scenes ever, almost lose another one of their own. They also find out that the prison has more than just a walker infestation. Cue the scary music.

The premiere more than lived up to all the hype and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It even had a dose of that macabre, gory humor I love as Rick literally rips the face from a prison guard walker. And for the Daryl fans out there like moi, there's a nice light-hearted moment between him and Carol.

Spoilers Over

Did you watch last night? If you haven't, will you watch? Talk to me.

  1. is it true that they've chopped chopped Hershel's leg?
Are you saying that Lori is in spotlight? I won't be able to take it if she is, Melsy!
It should air at 10pm here, but I still don't have the new channel :((

    1. Yes! Laurie, unfortunately, has too much screen time. Not a huge spotlight, but anything more than 3 seconds and I'm done. ;) OMG I hope you get to see it tonight. It is more than awesome, Dezz.

  2. Do you know what happens to Lori in the comics? Do you want me to tell you?

Also, I found it interesting that Hershel was bit in the leg and Rick hacked it off to save his life. Interesting because that's what happened to Dale in the comics. At the prison. After the prison, Dale gets bit again (shoulder) and Andrea puts him out of his misery before he can reanimate (seeing that Dale and Andrea were having relations in the comic despite their age difference.

Still...great freaking episode. I especially loved the first five minutes of complete silence at that house. What else from last night? I'm not sure why they didn't just stab the dead bodies in the head in the prison hallways. Just in case, right?

Let me know if you want me to tell you what happens to Lori in the comics. It's kind of awesome.

    1. Tell me!! I am dying for her to get devoured or sacrificed ala Otis.

Those first five minutes were terrific. Lots of tension made worse with the silence. The absolute quiet always gets me. I think sometimes that the music is too much of a distraction for tense scenes. Yeah, I don't know why they didn't stab those bodies in the head. You have to be sure.

    2. Rick hacked off Hershel's leg??? Oh, dear... How will they cope with Hershel without a leg?

    1. No problem E.J. I know how people are still trying to catch up on the seasons. It really does just keep getting better and better. Let me know if you want to talk WD. I love a great discussion about my favorite show.

  4. Sorry, I didn't make it past the end of season one. Will catch up when it's all on NetFlix. Too much else happening in life right now.
And I was busy watching the Texans go down in flames last night.

    1. Alex, when you play catch up, I think you will really enjoy yourself. It's so well written.

Zombies or football...It's a choice that plagues me. Since the Bears are my priority, if they are not playing on Sunday night, I go with the zombies. ;)

  5. I have a feeling that they are going to head in a particularly dark direction with Laurie and her pregnancy. I'm curious how the prisoners will integrate with Rick's group (or if integration is even possible). Michonne's story line is just beginning so we will have to see how she and Andrea get together with the Governor (who is super evil). The thing I didn't like was how they advanced the plot some eight months from last season. It was difficult for me to believe that being so close to the prison at the end of season two, that it took them eight months to get to it.

    1. I think they are, too. I was told what happens to her and the baby in the comics and I can only hope they do something similar in the series. Honestly, it is time for her to go. I wonder if the prisoners will be part of another bar shootout myself. Yeah, I wasn't too keen on the time advancement, either. I know they said they had to keep circling and try other things, but come on. Eight months to go a few miles to the prison? No way.

    1. Yay!! That prison is just creepy as hell. That tunnel scene was scary. I could not even blink. ;) You've got to love it when they go all out with the walkers. Makes up for some eps last season when there were only a few here and there.
