Halloween Round Up

Halloween is not quite over. I know today begins November, but I want to share my adventures from last night. During the day as I worked on some things, I kicked it old school with Turner Classic Movies and watched Dementia 13 and The Last Man on Earth. It was soon time to hit the streets for some candy, candy, candy.

I had the best time being escorted about the neighborhood by a zombie, the Headless Horseman, Batman and the Ghost Face Killer. We saw a tiny Michael Myers, Marie Antoinette sans head, pumpkins, witches, a Tootsie Roll, Freddy Krueger, pirates, a cowgirl and a One-Eyed, One-Horned Flying Purple People Eater. We passed graveyards, bonfires, a Frankenstein, a funeral coach, a skeleton on a motorcycle and lots of bushes that housed giant spiders based on those webs.

After our freaky journey 'round the hood, we returned to my sister's for some well-deserved pizza and decorated some cookies shaped like ghosts, bats and jack o'lanterns. I love piping frosting, but am not very good. My ghosts looked hairy and my bats all seemed to have porn 'staches.

Now, the one rule after Trick or Treat is to not eat the candy until it has been checked over. On the ride home, the smell of citrus fills the air. "Who's eating Skittles?" I say. Silence, then a little voice answers. "Nah me." the Horseman said around a mouthful. I rode the rest of the way home with his plastic pumpkin of candy on my lap.

So how was your Halloween?

  1. Sounds like a good night! I wish there was more of a hoo-hah about Halloween here, but all we get is drunk students in skimpy costumes blasting music till 6am ...

    1. Ah the drunken students. I remember when I was one. LOL Halloween is certainly one of the highlights of my year and maybe you should come here next year to enjoy the fun. :)

  2. Marie Antoinette sans head, huh? That's creativity. I handed out candy to ninjas and witches and a couple of princesses. There was one banana and a pair of very creepy skeleton and zombie things. But my favorite was the kid who dressed up as Waldo from "Where's Waldo?"

That was my last Halloween costume so it made me a little nostalgic.

    1. Where's Waldo sounds awesome! I love that guy. My best friend from college went as waldo like 3 years ago, I think, for a party we went to.

Sounds like you had a super-fun night. My goodness, the decorations look fabulous. The little tombstones, the huge Frankensetin monster... badass!!

  4. Sad, but yes - must inspect candy first.
No pictures of the bats with porn stashes?
Melissa, sounds like you had an evening you really needed - just plain fun!

    1. I agree, so sad we have to do that inspection.

Alas, I always forget to take pictures of food LOL. I'm still getting used to being the person with the camera. :)

It was a whole lot of fun and I can't wait til next year.

  5. what happens if you don't insect the candy before eating, Melsy? Do crazy people give out candy passed their date or do they give out strange things too?

    1. Unfortunately, sweetie, this sad tradition got started because some sick people put things like needles, pills and other things in candy. Some kids got hurt. There's also a rumor of razor blades. They still do find candy with various crap in them so we make sure to check all the candy. Any ripped packaging gets tossed out immediately.

    1. I just love costumes. It's the only night when I can walk freely with Freddy, Jason and Michael and not be scared LOL.

Marie A was a terrific. I wanted to take a pic, but her mom might have thought I was a weirdo. :)

  8. We had about 10 very cute, very tiny visitors. This little Spiderman, barely a foot high, comes up to the door and says, "I want your candy." lol

  9. I agree. You must check out all the candy before eating it. Checking it out involves eating it. =)

I'm still inducing truckloads of sugar. That is, it was a good Halloween.

    1. LMAO Yes, checking out the candy involves much tasting. :) I'm diabetic so I stick to my dark chocolate delights and let the others have at it though. ;)

      Hugs!

  10. Man, that sounds like a really good time (especially them porn-stashed bats!). Last night was so incredibly lame in my neighborhood, I felt like doing a cover of that 80s tune by super group Band Aid, only my version would be, "Do They Know It's Halloween At Aaaaall?" :)

    1. We had a blast and I think next year I'll plan better so I can go in costume. Haven't done that in a while. It stinks that we have to check the hauls before we let the kids have at it.

  12. What a fun way to spend Halloween. The last time we did anything for the occasion was when our foster daughter Ashley was with us. She's seen the photos of me dressed up as Brandon Lee from the Crow and wanted to do the same. That was a fun morning dressing her up for school.
