My Teenage Dreams

Okay, so I'm a day late, a dollar short and didn't even get a chance to sign up, I've been so busy, but Vic Caswell, Emily White and Sarah Ahiers hosted the Teenage Heartthrob blogfest yesterday. It was fun to click around when I got home from work and see all the people that made one's teen heart race. I saw Jared Leto, Elijah Wood, Heath Ledger, Christians Bale and Slater, Jonathon Taylor Thomas and a Gwen Stefani. A great group of hotties to be sure.

I was teen in the 80's, yes I am an old bag. So here are my teen hearthrobs from back in the day.

The entire cast of The Outsiders

Oh, My. God. Back in 1983, I was a squealing tween in love with each and every one of these guys. I mean come on, Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Ralph Macchio and C. Thomas Howell. Holy Guacamole!

Cary Elwes

He made my heart go thumpity-thump as Wesley in my fave film, Princess Bride as well as the first time I ever saw him opposite Helena Bonham Carter in Lady Jane. Then when he donned the blue in Glory...Hell to the yeah!

Johnny Depp

There are no words. I have loved him since I first saw him in 21 Jump Street and as poor Glenn, who gets killed by his bed in A Nightnare on Elm Street.

Duran Duran

This was my boy band. Simon, Nick, John, Andy and Roger, what a quintet of deliciousness.

So who were some of your crushes? Go here to see more of the participants.

  1. It was a magical decade and just as we say for the flower children of '68, there are many now who wish to be there with us during 80's. I thought that the reason why it was so special for us was because we were teens then, and looked at the world from a different, fresh, exciting perspective. Music was music, lyrics were lyrics, sound was sound. But my 7 year old son listened to some of those songs from 80's a couple of weeks ago at his birthday party, and asked me "Dad, why didn't I hear those songs before, they were awesome! Especially Michael Jackson was great. I want to listen to those songs now, not the current ones." No, it wasn't us, but the period's itself that was magical.

    1. Absolutely! I loved my 80's and Michael Jackson was most definitely a huge part of it. The music was awesome. I'm getting my nephews into some of my fave bands from the time and it's really cool to hear them run around singing Union of the Snake and Beat It. That is too cool about your son loving this music. Thanks for sharing. :)

  2. Great list there! You are not such an oldie :) I was a teen in the 70's when Disco first came on the scene and John Travolta was king...LOL!

    1. Travolta and Saturday Night Fever!!! Now that was a entertainment. And I used to love this dance show Solid Gold. I hung out with my teenaged cousins at the time so I have a few crushes from childhood like Danny Terrio from Dance Fever. ;)

  4. Well, I was aware of all those people. I recall how much I liked the Outsiders, but was a bit saddened by it, not one of those that I wanted to see on repeat viewings.

    1. The Outsiders was sad. I sobbed my 13 year old heart at the theater, but in spite of the sadness, I do love watching it. My sister just bought me a copy for my birthday this past year. I wore out my VHS one years ago and never replaced it. :)

  5. I still don't know why Cary Elwes isn't a huge star, all blond gods should have their own galaxy in Hollywood :)

    1. Yes htey should! I don't know why Cary's not a bigger star, either. He is one of my all time fave crushes and I think he's just so talented.

  6. Melissa ... the same as yours, but I am a bit older than you so I have to confess that my 11 year old heart went out to David Cassidy. Dang, I need to go back and watch The Outsiders. I have The Princess Bride memorized and have several copies laying around the house.

    As you wish!

    1. "As you wish" Those lines made my heart beat faster. I used to catch David on the Partridge Family reruns on the local station here and man, did I have it bad for him third grade. :) I still enjoy those reruns and think's aged very well.

Do watch The Outsiders. Patrick Swayze was the best big brother ever. :)

  7. Loved The Outsiders - the book, and the movie was just full of soon-to-be-bigtime stars.

I'm a child of the 80, turning 13 in '85, so I had a HUGE crush on Olivia Newton John.

    1. The Outsiders was one of my favorite books. I wore out my first two copies. :) The movie cemented the story for me and I wore out my VHS copy watching it. LOL

Olivia Newton John is still one of the most beautiful women. I loved her not only in Grease, but in Xanadu and I used to play her Greatest Hits tape over and over on my Walk Man.

    1. The Outsiders has been one of my fave movies since I first sobbed my eyes out in the theater with my best friend Lisa. Patrick was such a hottie and I miss him. This movie was a like who's who of up and coming talent. And those adorable faces. :)

  9. There is a worn spot in my VCR copy of The Princess Bride because I would play that first few scenes of "As you wish" over and over just to look at Wesley's baby blues all dressed up in peasant farm boy garb. Sad I missed this fest, sounds right up my alley.

    1. When Cary first appears as Wesley, it is a dream. I thought I had died and was getting romanced by an angel. LOL Listen to me after all these years I've still got it so bad. But that golden hair and those blue, blue eyes were just amazing.

    1. Oh sweetie I have always had it bad for Johnny. LOL I watch him in everything and just absolutely adore him. I can never get enough of him. And I think he's only gotten better with age. ;)

  11. I love The Outsiders. It's one of my favorite "youth" films. And that cast was insanely brilliant. Coppola really had an eye for talent. All those actors who would grow into bona fide stars were, at the time, merely young, hungry and ambitious. I actually caught it on TV this weekend. I've probably seen it a half-dozen times :)

My first celebrity crush was Denise Richards. When my prepubescent eyes glimpsed her natural beauty in that campy film, Tammy and the T-Rex, it became love at first sight. That movie is utter garbage. But Denise was a pillar of sensuality. She never quite had the talent to match her looks, but she'll forever remain my first true celebrity crush.

    Great post!

    1. The Outsiders was a brilliant film and a moment in time, really. I wore out my copy I've seen it so many times. LOL This was my first Coppola film and brought me to The Godfather and Apocalypse Now.

Tammy and the T-Rex!! Oh my God I remember that movie. How funny. Denise sadly isn't a great talent, but she does have a comedic timing that serves her well.

    1. Duran Duran was the best. Hungry Like The Wolf and Union of the Snake are my favorite songs ever by them. They were my first concert and my friends and I were deaf for about an hour after the show. LOL

Johnny is great no matter when you come to him. ;)

  14. Oh, be still my heart! Teenage crushes...well, let's see. Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman), Catherine Bach (Daisy Duke), Erin Gray (Col. Wilma Deering), Tawny Moyer (Nurse Jill Halloween II), Barbi Benton, Kristy Swanson, Olivia Newton John, and Lucinda Dickey. Those crushes never went away, by the way. I just added to the list. And I like all of your choices - The Outsiders was a really wonderful movie; Cary Elwes was just on a Psych I watched tonight - he's still fun to watch; I saw something in Johnny Depp watching him play Glen all those years ago - knew he was going places; and while I wasn't much of a Duran Duran fan back then - I quite enjoy their music now! Wonderful post!

  17. I liked River Phoenix...he was the best for me back then but I tell you I don't really understand the out of sorts people get over pictures of cute people. I felt like I HAD to pick someone to hang pictures of up in my room. I liked 'Stand By Me' so that is what made my choice I think. Looking forward to all the A-Z challenge community this year!
