Potpourri of Cool

Well I hope everyone has had a great start to their week. I spent a very lazy day yesterday and helped a friend with a rather interesting problem. I was also at Jeffrey Beesler's World of the Scribe and poked fun at my writing. You can check out the whole thing here since I didn't post it up like I should have. Bad Melissa! Thank you so much Jeffrey, for having me. I loved it and you rock for always showing the love for your fellow writers.

I saw Kung Fu Panda 2, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but did not laugh out loud as much as I did at the first one. I think my mood was soured by the fact that someone threw their baby's shitty diaper out the car window and nearly hit me. What a disgusting splat right by my new shoes. It was still an awesome flick with excellent animation f/x and a great story chock full of humor.

I also got a chance to see one of my most romantic and favorite movies ever, Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison with Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr. I love it when I get a quiet moment to watch a favorite movie that is near and dear to me. It's like wrapping myself in my softest comforter and watching it snow outside, knowing I have absolutely nowhere to be. This is one of the very few movies I tear up at and I feel like big loser for admitting that because I HATE to cry. It exposes my soft, gooey center. I'm a tough chick from Chicago's South Side... No cryers, fools!:P

I should own this film, but I don't. It tops my ever expanding list of must buys. If you ever get a chance to see this gem do so. The chemistry between Mitchum and Kerr is incredible, the dialogue is sharp and highly entertaining. There are also some really tense, scary situations and I get caught up every single time I watch this. Besides, Robert Mitchum is hot as hell with that teddy bear scruff.

  1. So, you skipped Pirates of the Caribbean for Panda, eh?
    I commend you for that!

I, personally, have only recently seen Bridesmaids, which I highly recommend.

Sorry about the diaper incident. I should have paid closer attention to where I was throwing that thing. :)

  2. The interview over at Jeffrey Beesler's World of the Scribe is absolutely fantastic, Mel. Great job.

Someone threw their baby's shitty diaper out the car window?! Are you serious? I'd never gyuess things like that happen in America. Here, in our crappy country, many people throw their garbage out of the window. A**holes!

Glad you enjoyed KP2, Mel. I'm watching it next week, and I'm excited about it. Firstly, I intend to see the original film on my plasma TV. ;)

OMG, I've never heard of "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison"!! Ah, and I consider myself a movie buff. LOL.

  3. I felt the same way for Kung Fu Panda 2 as well, fun but not as LOL as the first.

I pray that your week gets better and, loaded diapers-free! :)

  4. Many years ago I saw this movie, but I can't remember it. Now I want to see if I can find it and watch it again. I love both Deborah Kerr and Mitchum :) Good oldies, don't make them like that anymore.

  5. @Andrewmeister Pay attention where you throw next time. It's called a garbage can. ;) Yep, I skipped Pirates, I had my nephew with me and he was dying to see KP2.

I'm going to catch Bridesmaids at some point this week. My mom and sister saw it yesterday and loved it.

  6. @J-son Aww... Thanks! I think I'll avoid movie theater parking lots just to be on the safe side, though. ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only who thought KP2 was good, but not as hilarious. I mean I laughed so hard in the first one that I missed parts.

  7. @Siv Oh I hope you can find it. It is such a great movie. And yes, they do not make stars like Mitchum and Kerr anymore.

  8. @Nebular Hey sweetie, thanks! There are pigs the world over and I agree with that A**hole sentiment wholeheartedly.

You have a plasma TV?! That is awesome. I'm so jealous. :) I have an analog TV with a converter box. Hey, it still works wonderfully and until the ol' budget gets larger... I had to rewatch the original, too before I went and I cracked up laughing as usual.

You should totally see Heaven Knows. It is a great movie and I can't recommend it enough. And don't worry, you're still one of the most knowledgeable film people I know. :)

  9. I heard that the producers want to incorporate Chuch Norris in KUNG FU PANDA 3 somehow if it gets into production :) I wasn't overly amazed by the first part either, not my type of animated movies. I prefer them warm and lovely and witty not like a stand up comedy sketches with rude jokes.

I always loved Deborah Kerr. Beside Joanne Fontain, my favourite of the less known classic stars.

  11. Even tough chicks have to tear up every now and then - especially at favorite movies, which why on earth don't you own, already?

  12. Glad you liked Kung Fu Panda. My wife hasn't begged me to see it yet, but I'm sure it's coming.

  13. The diaper thing is disgusting!
I thought the sequel was as good as the original. Also thought it was much better than Pirates, but parts II and III really burned me of that series.

  14. I still can't wait to see Kung Fu Panda 2. Glad you dug the animation, f/x and story. Robert Mitchum is indeed cool. I love his whole anti-hero persona. I recently watched one of his later performances in a film called The Friends of Eddie Coyle. The movie was good—apparently it partly inspired Ben Affleck to make The Town—but it was Mitchum's performance that stuck with me. He's so likeable and it comes naturally.

  15. @Dez Hey sweetie, I love Joan Fontaine as well. She was classically gorgeous and so talented.

That is so interesting about Chuck Norris being KP3. That would be perfect! Thanks for sharing.

  16. @baygirl I still have to see Pirates. the movement for Panda was stronger in my house this past weekend. You'll enjoy it and an added bonus, no one will throw a crappy diaper at you. :)

  17. @Julia Every time I tried to get this, it wasn't available or too rich for my blood and after a while I just quit looking. But after this weekend, it is at the top of my list.

  18. @Chris I think you'll like Panda. There was a lot of great humor and cool action scenes.

  19. @Alex There are pigs lurking everywhere, I tell you. I thoroughly enjoyed Panda and still laughed a lot.

I was burned out with 2 and 3 in the Pirates series, too. It's like they just went downhill.

  20. @Matt See KP2, you'll have a great time.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle rocked. Mitchum blew me away there. He's one of my all time favorite actors because he had that effortless cool that allowed him to say so much with a glance a few words. And he killed in the original Cape Fear.

  21. Glad to hear you also enjoyed the second Po's adventure my friend. But sorry to hear that distracting incident, I believe you would have more pleasure if that never happened.

  22. I love that old Mitchum and Kerr film. And you're so right that Robert Mitchum looked great in it. Thanks for your kind support on my last post. I appreciate it!

  23. @Jaccstev You are so right about that incident really coloring my experience. I probably would have enjoy KP2 a lot more.

  24. @septembermom Robert Mitchum was definitely a childhood crush, even though he was more than old enough to be my grandpa a the time.

You are most welcome! I'm looking forward to my return visits.
