Rock N Roll Heaven And A Wind Up

12 12 12 concert logo via http://www.121212concert.org/
Last night was incredible the music fan in me. I am hard rock, rock n roll girl to the marrow of my bones so the12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief was pure paradise, though there were definitely some sour notes. First the very high notes. I am really happy that so many people donated their time for the cause and that there were a lot of first responders in the audience. I loved the video segments featuring individual stories like the kids talking about the Jersey Shore and Team Rubicon about vets helping disaster survivors, camping out in an abandoned house to be on hand at all times. You can donate to the Robin Hood relief fund here.

Very high notes were also Sir Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, the Nirvana mini reunion (Kisses Dave and Chris, you still rock my soul) Roger Waters with Eddie Vedder, Alicia Keys (whose New York song sounded way better minus the rap stylings of Jay-Z) The Who, Bon Jovi and of course, the Boss, Bruce Springsteen.

Billy Joel was meh, I'm kind of over his songs, still he was enjoyable. Kanye West was a bit of a yikes for his 20 minute set. What was that skirt? Okay, Chris Martin, I'm sure you're a very nice guy, but I just do not get the appeal of you. Your voice is like someone trying to sing with a mouthful of marbles and water. And what was with the Losing My Religion piece with Michael Stipe? Could you two have been any more depressing?

On to other things. I'm orbiting Mars happy you all enjoyed my Alex fest post the other day. It was great fun trying to imagine our Captain Ninja and creating my very first piece of flash fiction. Hat tip, Alex my friend, you are incredible.

My birthday is Saturday so I'll be doing a fun post with some of my favorite things. I am getting to be one old ass bitch. LOL

Laters!

  1. I watched some of the concert as well. I have a new appreciation for performers now that I am performing with my guitar. Bon Jovi was good, as was Clapton. Can't believe the Rolling Stones can still move around like that. Especially when Richards already looks like he's dead but no one's told him.

    1. Clapton was great, too. How could I have forgotten to mention him? My nephew was completely impressed with the Stones and could not believe how old they are. Richards is a zombie for sure. LOL

    2. It's all the alcohol and drugs that keep Keith upright-he's been pickled and preserved. Either that or he's a zombie.

  2. I do very much feel the appeal of Chris Martin (although not of his wify Gwynderella) :)
I'd never put Alicia Keys in the high company, Melsy :P She is always so mediocre and uninspired.

I'm preparing an army of strippers for the birthday parteeee! :)

    1. Now see, I like Gwyneth. She's a good actress to me, not great, but good. Alicia is never uninspired, she plays her own instruments, writes her own music and songs, I dig that. Mediocre and uninspired is J Lo or Carrie Underwood.

Can't wait for the strippers, you always get the hottest guys. ;)

  4. Great concert Melissa. Clapton is such an amazing musician. He totally reinvented himself and is still a genius.

    1. Clapton is awesome, isn't he? I was just in heaven last night watching all these acts that have inspired me over the years.

  5. Michael Stipe has always kind of annoyed me, don't know if he fit in with the rest of the group, downer to the max!

    1. Yes, a most definite downer. I was like are we supposed to be raising hopes or sink them in depression. LOL

  6. My dad is born on the same date as you, so that makes Dec 15 twice as special to me. :)

I'm definitely not a rock guy. Probably the only rock band I love is Kings of Leon. These guys are in a different league. :)

Alicia Keys is overrated. Period. :)

    1. Happy Birthday to your dad! Dec 15 is a rockin day for sure. :)

Kings of Leon is pretty good. They have a different sound that I like.

Alicia is not overrated. I can name a ton of people who are huge but have like a fifth of her talent and intelligence. :)

  7. Awesome line-up, yay for Coldplay (you know, I like them - but I HATE; HATE; HATE Chris Martin) and Billy Joel (I still can't get enough of his 70s/80s stuff) :)
Saw the McCartney/Nirvana jam on YT - pretty epic stuff!

  10. There are only a few times a year when I miss having a telly and this would be one of them. Great line up here and I see we have much the same taste is rock music. Love The Who and still miss Moon the Loon, but am thrilled that Starky (Ringo's son) plays drums with them. And McCartney-be still my heart. He was my very first crush as a little girl. When he dies, I'm going into mourning and wearing widows weeds for a year.

    1. High fives, Anne! We rock, my friend. :) Starky is awesome at the skins, though I do miss seeing Moon. I watch old clips of him and he was unbelievable. McCartney is an icon and I know how you feel. When Steven Tyler goes, I'm going into mourning myself.

    1. Hi Trisha! It was absolutely thrilling and more so because it was for such a great cause. Cannot stop talking about the Nirvana reunion. It was so great seeing Chris and Dave together again. Made me miss Kurt, though.

  14. Is it true that Paul McCarney fronted the Nirvana reunion? Sounds like an odd mix.

  20. Great that they put this show on to raise money, amazing how singers can always raise funds in a very short time span. Sounds like you had fun even through the more questionable performances.
