First Movie:
E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial It was the first movie I had seen without my siblings in tow and the story of this poor alien so far from home just wormed its way into my heart and never left. I still sob when the little guy breaks his connection to Elliot and "dies."
First Band:
Duran Duran were the gods of my teenage idolatry. Hungry Like the Wolf, Girls on Film, Rio, Union of the Snake...Those tunes still get me going. Sure, I grew up and moved on to Aerosmith, but Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, Roger, John and Andy Taylor will always hold a place in my heart. Here's a bit of the Fab Five for your listening pleasure...
First Book:
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. It introduced me to the wonderful world of Narnia and I still reread the whole series on occasion.I mentioned in an earlier post that this was also the book that inspired me to become a writer.
First Love:
Oh man, I have had so many hard crushes and a wild, passionate fling or three where I thought I was in love, but no. I can honestly say that in all my years I have never been in real, honest romantic love. Ever. My first hard crush was Jimmy, the older brother of a classmate. He was a dazzler and made my heart beat faster when I was 13. Do I regret never being in love? Sure. But it's not like you can plan your feelings. Maybe one day, before I hit 97...Who knows?

Ha ha ha, I am starting to feel old. ET was a great movie but I had fallen in love with movies long before that one came out. The same with Duran, Duran :) Chances are Melissa, that love is bound to catch you sooner or later and when it does...look out :)

I think E.T. is a runaway favorite today. I have yet to read or see any of the Narnia series. I really need to do that.

Movies - I clearly remember how much I fell in love with "DuckTales the Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp" and "The Neverending Story", 2 of the very first movies my parents rented for me in 1990. In fact, they had to rent it for me several times because I couldn't get enough of Atreyu & Bastian, and Uncle Scrooge & his nephews. :)

Book - "Anne Frank's Diary", the first book I read by myself as a child. A fascinating, almost mesmerizing book. Still love the tragic story of poor Anne.
First love - Simone, a nice girl from my neighborhood. I was 7, she was 6. I wanted to marry her and live with her in a house by the sea - little boys, big ideas :-D
I love that story about you and Simone. You were such the little romantic. How cool!
DeleteDiary of Anne Frank still gets me. I have reread it several times and still choke up at the abruptness of that last page. You keep reading, totally nto the Secret Annex daily life and then Wham!
Ah The Neverending Story. That was a great movie and starred Noah Hathaway aka Boxie from one of my fave sci fi shows, Battlestar Galactica the original.
I'm much older than you - but still remember the excitement of the tenage crushes!

Music - The Monkees - the show was on in syndication in the afternoons when I got home from school - and I watched it religiously. Then my brothers got me the Best of album for the next gift giving occasion - although my jackwagon eldest brother made sure to tell me they didn't play their own instruments - like I cared at 10! (And I now know they only didn't play the instruments mostly on the first few albums! So suck it, bro!)
Book - The Mouse and the Motorcycle - read it about a zillion times as a kid.
First love - Kelley from Detroit Michigan - it's a very long story I may tell in full somewhere somehow. Suffice to say the rural Illinois boy was much more smitten by the big city girl than vice versa. But I still have fond memories of the best moments.
