It's Friday and I am just happy to be alive. Yes, alive. Yours truly was not paying attention when she got off the bus on Monday night and stepped out into oncoming traffic. Thanks to the awesome quickness of my bus driver, Alex King, I am alive and well. He saw me cross in front of him just as he started pull away, but he braked and honked, startling me enough that I did not make it past the bus and out in front of the huge eighteen wheeler barreling along in the next lane. I think I spent the next hour or so with the shakes. I also had nightmares most of the night. So thank you, Alex and my Guardian Angel!
Today is also about reflections of another sort. Those of the Big A To Z last month. I know I'm late on this, but hey, better late than never. This year's hosts and their aides de camp did one absolutely breathtaking job. I admit that I am loath to use the word minion because it makes me think of Frankenstein's Igor. I think adjutant or aide de camp more appropriate because they helped our brilliant team of hosts keep everything organized and running smoothly. In the military there are special honors for these individuals.
As always, I loved meeting new people and finding new blogs. I am eager to continue on with the list and meet even more. I do have to organize myself better than I did this time. Once again, I did not get my posts done early, something I will be working to improve. I also regretted my commenting as I just could not keep up this time. For those of you who came here and I missed you, I am sorry. I appreciate you taking the time to visit and it meant the world to me. I smiled as I read your comments and they got me through some rather hectic days.
In spite of all my missteps, I will definitely be back for next year. It is tiring, crazy and a heck of a lot of fun.
So what are you all up to this weekend? I want to see Gatsby. I am so excited for this movie. It is about time we had a great version of this story on film. Leonardo Di Caprio is just the actor to capture Jay Gatsby and I sure hope he gets an Oscar nod this time. He is way overdue for another one and yes, he deserves the gold statue. Anyway, shutting up now. Have a great weekend!
I fell behind too with responding to my comments on the challenge.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to be scouring through the list to check out as many as I can now it's died down a bit.
I'm looking forward to Gatsby as well!
Hi Heather. I'm so happy someone else out there fell behind on the commenting. I felt terrible, but I also felt alone, like I wasn't handling things very well. I'm going to go back through the list, too. I love going new places. :)
DeleteGod Bless your guardian angel! We want you around a while longer.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the Challenge. Some of the hosts gave their helpers other names, but mine were proud to be Ninja Minions. (And we thought more along the lines of Despicable Me.)
I didn't get to many new blogs either. Spent most of my time drowning in comments. But I'll join the Road Trip in a week or two.
Next year we'll rock it again!
Thank, Alex! I want to be around a long while too. I didn't mean to insult the minions, I guess I watch too many evil scientist and other horror films. :) I can't wait for next year, I'm really going to work on developing a system and I think I'll experiment while doing the road trip.
DeleteHuzzah Bus Driver Alex! You be more careful Melissa Renee Bradley!
ReplyDeleteYay A-Z! Visiting other blogs became my nemesis too! Hope I can do better in 2014! Cheers!
Indeed i will be more careful. I can't believe what a dumbass thing I did.
DeleteWe will rock 2014 and I look forward to doing the challenge right alongside you, my friend.
Did I get that middle name right then?
DeletePraise GOD you're safe! Oh how scary. We get distracted, and boom! Accident. I was hit by a car at age 9 (which is part of what I wrote about in my A-Z theme about my first year as an immigrant from Sweden) and spent 4 months in a body cast. Not fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Alex explained about the minion thing. Most embraced it proudly, even though I called mine "Tina's Terrific Team" in case anyone would object. They hung their badges with the headings like, "Minion and Proud of It" and stuff like that. Cracked me up.
Very much looking forward to Gatsby. Love Leo, and then there's the fact that I've never liked Robert Redford, and he was horrid as JG - no swagger! Leo can swagger...oh my.
Enjoy your weekend, and we'll see you on the road. Also nice to see you "at my house" yesterday.

I couldn't keep up with the comments. I'm sure I missed quite a few.
ReplyDeleteThank God the bus driver honked.
I am so glad your angels and bus driver were looking out for you! Strange the wake-up calls we get sometimes. Hope you aren't traumatized anymore. Near calls are really scary. Great post on your reflections! And thanks so much for coming by and leaving a comment! Don't know if you saw my reflections post, but it's there as well. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and, I'll be back to visit!
ReplyDeletenow that was a horrid episode, Melissa, you need to start being more careful!
ReplyDeleteWhat an experience Melissa! I'm glad your OK and thank you bus driver! Every year we learn more from the challenge. That's what makes it great.
ReplyDeleteWhew, glad your driver was paying attention and that nothing happened.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't worry too much, I think a lot of us were behind with the comments...I know I sure was. I enjoyed your entries, all the same :)
Wow that really sounds like a near death experience, life and death are really just seconds apart! Thank goodness you are ok! I enjoyed reading the a-z post!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Gatsby as well!!
Yay for Alex honking at you. I'd miss ya. I have a workshop tomorrow, then I hope to get out.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you were saved. My daughter is going to see Gatsby but I think I'll skip it.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm glad you're okay. Be careful out there! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds terrifying and I know how it feels.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the the time I nearly got hit by a bus. I was going to visit Ali and Dempsey and I wasn't paying attention, listening to music. I stepped of the path and although I didn't see or it, I think I just knew it. I jumped and fell backwards, just as the bus wizzed past me, came to a sudden stop. I am on the ground, there are two girls on the other side with their heads in there hands and the bus driver looks shocked and scared.
Yes, the A-Z has come to a close. I find I never have enough time to visit everyone I would like to, so I have signed up for the road trip this year!
ReplyDeleteMelissa, thanks for the kindness you show to others, there is a little something as payback, over at my site for you to retrieve.
I think I prefer "aide de camp" as well. :-) I'm also looking forward to Gatsby - finally a Daisy I can believe! (I mean, she totally looks like money, knowhatahmsayin?) So glad you had folks looking out for you and keeping you splat-free in traffic!!!!!!! :-)
