Friday Fun

First, big congrats to Michelle Pickett, whose debut novel Concilium drops today. yay, Michelle! Please head on over and give her some well wishes.

Today, I am in dire need of a good laugh, so I am posting some of my fave funnies here. The first is "Captain Hareblower" a 1954 cartoon pitting Bugs Bunny against the dread pirate Yosemite Sam. I still get a belly laugh out of these two.

This second little cartoon is Daffy Duck as Robin Hood, a hilarious favorite of mine. Note, when I laugh really hard, I look and sound remarkably like Porky Pig in here, a wheezing, heaving uncontrollable mass. And yes, I do fall out laughing. What can I say, I love to laugh and I throw myself into it.

Happy Friday! I hope you enjoyed these little ditties today. Hope you all have an awesome weekend. I am going to be writing and watching movies. I'm thinking I am in the mood for fantasy and adventure. Or perhaps a good tale of war, preferably WWI. What will you be doing?

    1. Old cartoons are the best! I'm so happy you enjoyed these little gems. I remember Felix the Cat, I used to love to watch him here on the afternoon cartoon hour on local Channel 26.

  5. who doesn't love old school cartoons... does anyone watch these late night cartoon shows on cartoon network under the title adult swim.... wow it's like porno for creepy puppets.

    1. Adult Swim, do not get me started. And I agree with the sentiment about porn for creepy puppets. :)

I just love these old cartoons. I know the animation slicker and all that, but the humor in these gems still resonates with me.

  6. Still the best cartoons.

I can see me tripping down that hill like Daffy. I can walk down a ten foot wide hallway and still manage to run into the wall at some point.

  9. Hi Melissa, what a great idea! I like how you have them situated on the page too, I was able to watch both at once ... once a multi-tasker, always a multi-tasker, lol.

That is great news for Michelle. Thank you so much for stopping by to see me ... I have a lot of pretty subject matter out here in Oregon ... and I just don't post my pictures that don't turn out.

Hope that you have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

    1. Multi-tasking rules! :) Oregon is a gorgeous state and I am sorry I did not visit more often when I lived up in Washington. Someday I will get back, though. Your pictures are inspiring.

And I wish you a wonderful weekend as well.

  12. That Daffy Duck as Robin Hood clip was fantastic. Oh, the nostalgia!

If you're looking for a fun, cute, little sci-fi action-adventure, watch The Iron Giant I'm sure you've already seen it, but it's worth revisiting.

    Happy Friday, Melissa!

  20. LOVE Looney Tunes - especially the controversial and politically incorrect ones. Slightly offensive sometimes, but it's part of our cultural history.

I don't think I'm damaged from growing up with these cartoons. I knew that if you shot a gun or cannon into someone's face, the damage was much more severe than a gunpowdered countenance and maybe a lopsided duck bill.

    1. I agree, some of these are offensive, but then a lot of humor is. We can learn a lot watching these as well. Where we came from, how far we still need to go, etc. And you're right, I knew as a kid that a cannon in the face meant death and not turning to ash, then coming back in the next scene. LOL

      Great comment!
