She Said, He Said Our 50 Favorite Movies

Happy weekend and welcome to one-half of the dual post  She Said, He Said: Our 50 Favorite Movies. I, of course am the She Said while my good friend Brent Allard from the wonderfully brilliant site Criminal Movies is my He Said. Today we are spotlighting our 50 favorite films, well 50 of them anyway. :) These are the films we love for various reasons, not necessarily because they changed the landscape of cinema or won  Academy Awards. So here they are in no particular order, just categories for organization. And while I tried to stay at 50,  I kinda sorta went over. By a lot. In my defense there are about 500 more that I left off the list. I can't help it, I love movies. LOL And I was never one for rules anyway, even if they are my own. ;)

  1. you have a great list... as i scroll down your list... i find it hard to make a list when someone asks you to make one but if no one asks you can throw out a 100 titles.

good thing your list reflects many good/great films. i am adding labyrinth, remo williams, repo man, pale rider, sweeney todd and more... bravo on thunderheart i forgot about that wonderful film.

    1. I know, right? If someone asked me to list my movies, I would not be able to, but because I just wanted to, here they are and I have tons more swirling around in my brain.

Loved Sweeney Todd and OMG Remo Williams was awesome. I'm happy you're a Thunderheart fan as well. I love Graham Greene in there.

    1. Hey Siv, glad you liked my rather long list. I think I want to re-watch some of these right now, myself. :)

  3. Excellent list! Can't leave out Zombieland or the Evil Dead series. And The Princess Bride is a must.

    1. Why thank you, my fellow movie geek! I am honored. No, there was no way I was leaving these three out. They were must includes. LOL

  4. Great list and who can blame you for going over? Tough to pick 50, and after reading your list, there's man more I could add. "Dog Soldiers!" That's a great horror movie, and "Bullitt" Nice picks!

    1. I'm so glad you went over too. It is so hard to pick just 50 when we both have so many favorites. I see we both love Jaws. What a film!

I'm so happy you did this with me. We should do a movie next time. :)

  5. TITANIC, darling? Tell me I didn't read that correctly :)
SILKWOOD is still one of the most disturbing dramas ever. And a true story....
So many violent films on the list, tell me, Melsy, how come you're not the mobster madre yourself :) Or is there something me doesn't know about the crime circles in Chicago :PPPPP

    1. You absolutely read that correctly. I LOVE Titanic. The disaster has fascinated me since the fourth grade and this was the best Titanic film I had ever seen.

Well, my dear I confess, I am a self-appointed crime boss here in Chitown. I am the South Side LOL.

    1. Rob is a lucky man. Encino Man? Did you make him jog home at least? On the other hand, it did have Brendan Fraser which is a plus in the eye candy department. ;)

  7. your list really is close to what mine would be. I thought I was the only one who knew about DOG SOLDIERS! LOL. Thanks for retweeting Victor's wise remarks. :-)

    1. My list nearly matched yours? How cool! I knew there was a reason I liked you. :) Dog Soldiers rules. LOL

Anytime on the RT's. I love Victor.

  8. Awesome list, Melissa. Silver Bullet and Dog Soldiers are among my fave werewolf flicks (along with American Werewolf in London). I loooooove the Thin Man movies. Haven't seen Somewhere in Time recently but remember it very fondly indeed. Under action/comedy, do you recall an early 80s flick with JoBeth Williams and Tom Conti, called American Dreamer? I'm not sure why, but reading through your list made it come to mind. It's not ground-breaking cinema, but I found it a lot of fun. :-)

    1. Thanks, mina! I very nearly kept American Werewolf in London as I love that film.

I do recall American Dreamer. Co-written by the awesome David Greenwalt before his Whedonverse days. I need to watch that. Haven't seen it in forever.

    1. How incredibly cool that you got to see them shoot Zombieland. I LOVE that movie. :)

  10. Wow, great picks, hon. Seriously! Not that I'm surprised though. ;)

The only film I was disappointed to see on your list was 30 Days of Night. I thought it was mediocre at best.

And no [REC]? :) I thought you love this one.

OK, I agree about The Terminator, but where is the sequel? It was superior in many ways.

Other than that - IMPRESSIVE list!

    1. I'm very happy you enjoyed my list, hon. It is by no means ALL of my faves. [REC] did not make the cut because I already had too many horror and these are the ones that I have watched the most. 30 Days of Night... well we'll agree to disagree as I think it's one of the best vampire movies. :)

Terminator 2 is missing the most essential element for me...Michael Biehn. Sorry, but I loved the first more than the second, but I do love JD, don't get me wrong. It's still a fave, just not more than one. :)

We do have great taste in film so I know we would have a blast if we ever did a movie marathon. Hugs!

    Sin City
    Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2
    Princess Bride
    Gladiator
    Lord of the Rings trilogy
    300
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Let me try to think of some faves of mine that aren't on your list:

Horror--Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, An American Werewolf in London

Sci-Fi--Planet of the Apes (1968), The Road Warrior, Back to the Future, Robocop, The Matrix, Watchmen, X-Men series

    Crime-- Two Hands (Australian)

War--Gallipoli, Band of Brothers (I know, I know, it's a miniseries, but I LOVE it), The Sharpe series (I know, I know...), The Horatio Hornblower series (I know, I know...), Admiral (an awesome Russian war flick)

Fantasy--The Fountain, Night Watch/Day Watch series, The Brothers Grimm, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

    1. How could I not have kept Young Frankenstein on there? Ah well...Sweeney Todd almost made the cut as did Road Warrior and Galaxy Quest.

Ladyhawke...I'd forgotten about that one. I'll have to find it and re-watch. I haven't seen it forever.

I'm very happy you enjoyed my list and it rocks that we have similar tastes. we'd have a great movie night together.

  14. My favourite thing on your list is a category: Cargasm! What a perfect description of V8 cinema. One I'd add to the cargasm list is The Seven-Ups, a cop movie that's practically a sequel to The French Connection. I've got a review of it here.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. LOL, Cargasm is a great category isn't it? I first heard that term at The Chitown Auto show. And I will definitely be checking out your review for The Seven-Ups. I love me the car flicks or should I say V8 cinema? I love that term and thank you for sharing.

  15. yay, one helluva list! Love the Cargasm-category too :)

Nice to see the underrated Zodiac and the super-hilarious Bad Teacher on your lists - but where's Terminator 2? Do you really prefer the first part?

    1. Cargasm is a wonderful category. I had to include my fave car flicks. :)

Ah Terminator 2...I loved it and it's still a fave. One of the 500 that got left off, actually, but it lacks the one essential element: Michael Biehn. Sorry, but he is the sole reason why Terminator the Original gets the nod. LOL

  22. I loved The Terminator. Such a great movie and a wonderful love story. Saw it three times in the theater. I saw Titanic three times, too.

When Harry Met Sally is 'our' movie, because my husband and I WERE Harry and Sally.

    1. The love story is precisely why The Terminator rules over the equally excellent sequel, Judgement Day. I saw Titanic 3 times in the theater as well. What an awesome movie!

Loved Harry and Sally and that is too cool that you and your husband are them. :) Having an "our" movie is wonderful.
