Field Trip Friday

It's Friday...Whoo Hoo!! And it is the last day of the month, can you believe it? Where has the summer gone? Anyway, today is a field trip. I am over at my publisher, Amber Quill Press' blog. Come on and check it out here as I talk about the importance of humor breaking up the tension in novels and in life. There's a fun little excerpt from Maxie Briscoe: Werewolf as well.

Since today is the last day of the month, that means that next Wednesday will be Captain Ninja Alex J. Cavanaugh's Insecure Writer's Support Group. Come on and join our merry band of writers as we talk about insecurities and triumphs.

In morenews of the awesome variety, Jessica Bell over at The Alliterative Allomorph has some wonderful breaking news about her brilliant novel, String Bridge. Head on over and give her some love. The wonderful Siv Maria from Been There, Done That is participating in a blog fest from Wayman Publishing to support author Melynda Fleury with her fight against diabetes. Please help, however you can.

I'll leave you with a picture of Wolf Lake, right near my house. It literally starts at the end of my street and straddles the Illinois/Indiana border. I cross the street and I am in Indiana, that's how close I live and yet, I'm still in Chicago. Or so says my taxes. LOL Happy weekend!

  3. There's a street on the US/Canadian border where one side of the street is in the US and the other is in Canada.

I have no idea what I'm going to talk about for IWSG this time around. Good thing I have the weekend to figure it out.

    1. Hey M.J.! I think I've heard of this town. How awesome is that to be able to be in one country on one side of the street and in another once you cross over.

  4. Hi Mel! I enjoyed tagging along on your field trip. Great article on humor. I always appreciated how Julie Garwood used humor in her early romance novels.

You are lucky to have such a pretty lake right down the street. I imagined you living smack dab in the middle of the city, and seeing the lake makes me feel better about your safety for some reason, lol.

Hope you have a great weekend too.

    1. Hi Kathy! I'm so happy you enjoyed my post over at Amber Quill. Julie Garwood is a terrific author.

My neighborhood really is a different looking area. We are smack int he city, yet, there are the lakes. A mix of urban and rural almost. Aww.. it's nice to hear you think of my safety. :)

  7. I hope your 2 states are in the same time zone - that would be crazy if they were different!! Have a great weekend :)

    1. Actually, Jemi, Indiana just skirts the Eastern time Zone, so when we go to South Bend, it's always an hour later. Right by my house though is still Central time.

  8. Ooh, Wolf Lake sounds like the title to a murder mystery novel. I can totally see that photo as the cover.

    1. Yes, it does, doesn't it? I never thought about that, but it wouldn't surprise me because there have been bodies that have turned up in the lake.

I'm really glad you could my photo on a cover. Gives me a boost because I don't think of myself as a photographer, really.

  10. As lovely as that lake looks I bet you guys get a lot of bugs from it. :P

    1. Yep, there are a lot of bugs. But some of those bugs are gorgeous dragonflies. :)

  11. What a lovely body of water! I pictured your surroundings much more urban than that! Very cool! I always liked the idea of living on the edge of two of something: two states, two time zones, etc. Would enjoy having a house where you cook in one state but sleep in another - of course, I'm sure that would be a nightmare at tax time...but...

    1. Yeah, my surroundings do almost have an even split of urban and rural. We are still very much hood around here, though. Bodies have been hauled from that lake. Just to keep us on our toes. And I wouldn't walk some of those paths unless I had my zombie fighting crew with me. LOL

  12. Looks like you live in a peaceful corner of the world.
Off I go to Amber Quill's.

    1. Anytime, Siv! Yes, there are fish in the lake. :) Mostly blue gill and catfish, I think. We have a Sportsman's club not far from our house: The Wolf Lake Rod and Gun Club.

    1. I can't wait for the fold weather, actually. LOL I know I'm crazy. The heat drives me nuts. We've had horrible heat here and the humidity is the worst part. Hopefully we will have a great fall with no weird weather. :)
