Monday Morning Blues

I always hate Monday mornings. I can never seem to get my act together without an IV of caffeine. Last night was exciting as the Oscars aired. I did a live blog during the ceremony with my awesome friend, Matt Vanacore from one of the finest film sites ever, FilmMattic. We bantered back and forth about the winners, the losers, the snubs and the surprises. It was tremendous fun and I can't thank Matt enough for the opportunity.

SPOILER AHOY!!!

Since I watched the Oscars that meant I had to DVR The Walking Dead and watch after the main broadcast. OMG!!! Andrea needs to get her shit together and take a stand. Is she going with Team Prison or is she sticking with Team Woodbury? She can't have it both ways. There is no negotiation in the Apocalypse for crying out loud. And holy guacamole did Carol come up with that cold-hearted plan to bang then stab the Governor? Hell yes, it was. Ol' Carol is turning badass and it is about time. Daryl is a killer influence it seems.

And I love how Carl stood up to Rick and told him that he needed a break from being the leader. Carl is the man and I agree with him. Rick is going crazy, seeing the dead Lori, so yeah  he needs to come off the Ricktatorship for a minute or ten. And besides poor Carl had to shoot his own mother. He's keeping it together so why can't his dad?

Then we have Tyrese and company. These poor people can't catch a break, caught between walkers and two crazy guys. Kicked off of Team Prison, they are now preparing to be second stringers on Team Woodbury. Should be interesting to see what happens.

SPOILER OVER!!

I also love to watch Talking Dead, the round-up show on immediately after WD. I learn alot about the inner workings of the show. Last night I learned that when the zombies come, make sure you have maxie pads, dental floss and condoms. Apparently maxie pads make absorbent dressings for wounds as well as thick shoe inserts. Floss can be used as fishing line and condoms can hold two gallons of water. Who knew? Something to file in the back of your brains for future use, my writer friends.

I also saw a couple of really good movies this weekend. Cedar Rapids was a really intriguing comedy with Ed Helms, Sigourney Weaver, Anne Heche, John C. Reilly, Isaiah Whitlock, Jr. and Alia Shawkat. Tim Lippe is a naive insurance agent going to his first conference and is he ever in over his head. This was hilarious from start to finish. The other movie I watched was the creepy, but kind of dull The Fourth Kind. It's a mockumentary sci fi chiller about a psychologist who uncovers alien abductions in Nome, Alaska. Milla Jovovich, Elias Koteas and Will Patton star.

So how was your weekend? Watch any good movies? Watch the Oscars?

  1. I love Daryl Dixon.

I DVR'd the Walking Dead, too, so I could watch the Oscars live. Not sure I made the right choice.

I loved Cedar Rapids. I laughed until I cried and then I laughed some more.

    1. Daryl is the best! I was frustrated with how long the Oscars ran. I could not wait to get to Walking Dead and get my dose of zombie apocalypse.

Cedar Rapids is a gem that I am so happy I found out about. It has quickly become one of my favorite comedies.

  2. Damn, I didn't even make it to the end of the Oscars! Had to discover the winners this morning.
The Fourth Kind was 'all right,' but not that good.

    1. That telecast sure was loooooonnngggg. ;) I enjoyed Fourth Kind. It was definitely not one of the better movies I've seen, but it was unexpected and different.

  3. Andrea has really become a frustrating character, she's written as a bit of a rube. I was a little let down that Tyrese's group ended up with the Woodbury group.

Cedar Rapids is great, really underrated movie. 4th kind was very bleh.

    1. I am so mad that Tyrese is with Woodbury. And yes, I want to bitch slap Andrea. I mean she's picking a guy who keeps heads in aquariums over her friends. What the hell is she thinking?

  4. I'm kind of mixed on last night's "The Walking Dead." The second half of season 3 is kinda/sorta boring. I know they are setting up for some serious action though.

    1. I love every episode, but I know what you mean about the second half half being so slow compared to the first part. They are for sure setting up for some very serious action.

  5. what? Carol banged Governor? I'm yet to see the episode tonight :) Andrea was always an irritating person to me.

    1. just watched the episode. Da hell??? She decides not to use the knife in the end even though a kid, a baby, her friends and others could die????

    2. Dezz, she is only thinking about herself! Just like Marcion (or however it's spelled) said, she made the choice: a warm bed over a friendship! Grrrr!!

    3. Michonne was absolutely right about Andrea. how you gonna pick a psycho who keeps heads in an aquarium, his zombie daughter in a straightjacket and neck chain and holds gladiator fights with the loser getting fed to the walkers over your friends? Andrea seriously needs a bitch slap into the next eon. Her character is getting more and more frustrating. I hate looking at her anymore.

    4. yep, instead of poking his other eye with the knife she decides to get poked by his willie.... let us all count the days until she gets thrown to the zombies...

  6. I still need to catch up on this season of TWD, so I had to skips the spoiler (but thanks for the warning :) )

I've never heard of Cedar Rapids, but it sounds like it has a pretty good cast. For all the idiots John C. Reilly plays on screen, I find him to be a really great actor, overall.

    1. Catch up on TWD as soon as you can, Mark. it's awesome! I put that in there because I know how frustrating it is when you go to a site and they're all talking about something you have not seen yet. it ruins the experience and I don't want to do that.

John C. Reilly does take on some stupid parts, but he is very versatile and I really respect his work.

  7. Great commentating work last night, Melissa! We are quite the dynamic duo. I'm really glad you invested the time to participate through the entire telecast, too. Yeomans work. And I'm happy you were able to stay awake to watch Walking Dead. Karma rewarded your diligent efforts :)

    1. I have got to catch up on Downton. I have not watched any since the first season. The Husband Unit is probably complaining about Andrea, like the rest of us WD fans. LOL

  9. **spoiler alert**

I wanted to slap the crap out of Andrea Sunday night. She had her chance and did nothing! What? Marcion (spelling?) was right! Comfort over friendship

I love, love, love, Talking Dead! I love that they extended it and made it an hour long. It is so funny and it's chock full of information about the show and behind the scenes info - great stuff!

    1. Andrea is KILLING me!! I know the Gov is the main villain, but she could have at least stabbed him the jewels or something. But NOOOO, she goes and just stands there. Michonne was right. I feel bad because she really is hugely disappointed and betrayed by Andrea. And after she saved Andrea's ass from the walkers, too.

I'm so happy they extended Talking Dead. I absolutely love this show and it's the perfect way to wind down after an episode. I dig the guests they have every week.

    2. I hope we get to know Michonne a bit better each week. She seems like she is such a deep character and I want to know more about her and what makes her tick. Plus, I'm kinda sorta hoping in a devious way that Michonne bitch slaps Andrea just once. =P You know, in the "wake up" kind of way.

I love the guests that Talking Dead has and find it amusing how many stars love the show too and are enamored by all the characters from the show just like us.

  10. Hopefully Dark Skies is better than Fourth Kind. I thought the Oscars were decent this year. Anne Hathaway totally won my vote with her speech.

    1. Hey Maurice! I hope Dark Skies is good, too. While I enjoyed Fourth Kind, it was far from what I expected and I was a bit disappointed.

The Oscars were fun and yes, Anne's speech was incredible, she is a terrific actress and person.
